Tarot Card Reading – The Myth Unveiled

The history of tarot cards dates back to 15th century. During this era tarot cards (often referred as tarock cards) were used to play games. The word tarot is derived from an Italian word "tarrocchino" which was a gambling play cards game. It was during the latter half of the 15th century that mystics and oracles started using these cards to do the tarot card reading. There is a lot of mystery surrounding tarot cards and many people compare it with the psychic reading however these two are totally different things.

Since the 16th century critics have done a wonderful job of portraying tarot card reader as the either untrustworthy con artists or dark magic practitioners or both. The truth is far from it, tarot card reading is an art that scares many ordinary people but it is an art that can be mastered with practice nonetheless. Any person can learn to read tarot cards if he or she is willing to understand the basic rules and concept of the entire process. In my opinion supernatural abilities do not supersede practice hence it is important to go to a reader with lots of practice.

Many people blindly believe that tarot card reader can see the unknown or they have some sort of supernatural abilities. However in most of the cases it is not true. It is better to cleanse your mind of all the prejudices before going for a reading. There are many benefits of tarot card readings though. Sometimes individuals find it difficult to take objective stand on some things like inner feelings and emotions. In such cases tarot cards can provide invaluable guidance to those individuals. In essence tarot card readings can individuals to draw the line between the past, the present and the future. You will certainly experience this if you approach this art with open and receptive mind.

Many people believe that only the gifted can read the cards. Although the gifted or sensitive people can read the cards better than others; anyone with enough practice and knowledge can read cards. Secondly whenever the name tarot card reading comes up the image of turban clad mystic sitting in a scantly lit room comes to everyone’s mind. But the truth is card readers in today’s world will dress just like you. In fact many of them don’t need the traditional ambiance to work their charm. I have met at least a dozen tarot card reader who looked like a next door neighbor. Today many card readers have their own websites though which they provide online tarot card reading services for a fee. So you don’t even have to face the so called somber office of a reader.

Many of us also believe that the power of divination resides in the deck of cards. The older the cards the more powerful are the readings. The meanings of each tarot card are the same regardless if one is using an old moldy deck or a newly purchased one. As far as the power goes; the tarot card reader is responsible for that and of course his / her experience. The myth of third eye also surrounds the art of tarot reading. Bu the fact is there is no such thing as opening the third eye however some people are more responsive towards delicate emotional changes than others. Such people may be able to do the readings better than others but that’s all. The fact is tarot card reading is a combination of art and science and it should be treated as such.
